The Honorable Audrey Anne Creighton was appointed to the Circuit Court for Montgomery County in February 2014 by Governor Martin O’ Malley. Prior to her Circuit Court appointment, Judge Creighton served as a judge on The District Court of Maryland for Montgomery County since 2010. Judge Creighton is the second Hispanic judge in Montgomery County, and the fourth Hispanic judge in Maryland. Prior to her judicial appointment, Judge Creighton served as an Assistant Public Defender in Montgomery County for twenty years. She has extensive trial experience, having tried close to one hundred jury trials, including several murder cases.
Judge Creighton was raised in Montgomery County. She grew up speaking both Spanish and English at home, since her maternal grandmother lived with her family and did not speak English. As a child, Judge Creighton attended Grosvenor, St. Jane de Chantal, and Ritchie Park elementary schools and Robert Frost Junior High School. She graduated from Thomas S. Wootton High School in 1978, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from The University of Maryland in 1982. Judge Creighton earned her Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1986. Thereafter, she was clerk to the Honorable Richard P. Gilbert, Chief Judge of The Court of Special Appeals of Maryland. Following her clerkship, Judge Creighton was associated with the law firm of Rabineau & Peregoff in Baltimore City. Subsequently, as an Assistant Attorney General for The State of Maryland, she argued cases before the Courts of Appeal of Maryland.
Judge Creighton served as the eleventh President of the Maryland Hispanic Bar Association (MHBA), has been a member of the MHBA Board of Directors for over a decade, and received the MHBA Leadership Award in 2010. She is a member of both the Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia and the Hispanic National Bar Associations. Additionally, Judge Creighton has served as Treasurer, Secretary and Board Member of the Montgomery County Bar Association, has served as Chair of the Specialty Bar Associations Committee, is a member of the Maryland Bar Foundation Diversity Committee, and is actively involved in the Pipeline Scholar Program. Judge Creighton is a member of the National Association of Women Judges and has served on the Maryland Women’s Bar Association Montgomery County Chapter Board of Directors. Judge Creighton currently sits on the Maryland State Bar Association Criminal Law Council. Further, Judge Creighton teaches trial advocacy at an area law school and volunteers as a judge for mock trial and moot court competitions at the law school. Judge Creighton has volunteered as a judge for Montgomery County’s Teen Court and as a judge for the Maryland State Bar Association Statewide High School Mock Trial Competition. Prior to her judicial appointment, Judge Creighton served as a member of the Character Committee for The Court of Appeals of Maryland for the Seventh Circuit.
